Dear Lazyweb:

Which of these phones doesn't suck the most? Or least? That double-negative is confusing.

Sincerely,
Tired Of This Old Thing

i'd say anything that's EVDO and NOT a motorola.

and also, your personal needs and preferences. do you want flip? or candy-bar? or slider? etc...

I've always gone candybar in the past, but I don't really care any more I don't think. I just want something a little more interesting. I'd love an iPhone of course, but this is for an existing Bell contract with work, so I'm restricted to those phones (and in fact, probably not even all of them).

I've never owned anything except candybars, so they all scare me (I'll break it! I'll get sand in it and it won't slide properly!) but also intrigue me. :)

AND, the instinct is sort of the non-GSM phone-du-jour. it's considered an iphone competitor.

*nod*

the thing that scares me the most about candybar-style phones is scratching the screen, since they're always exposed. (though, that's why i got a screen-film cover for my iphone)

I test drove an Instinct and It Stinked. (note: it was the telus version, so the software was slightly different) Crappy browser, counterintuitive software behaviour, and poor response from the touch screen sometimes. Boourns.

But it still looks sexy.

oh, and another thing i like to do with phones out there is check out their model numbers on reviews.cnet.com

they usually have great summaries of just about any phone out there. (professional editorials, as well as consumer reviews)

I totally should be worried about that but I've never had that problem at all. My screen is still basically perfect after 3.5 years. (!)

Yeah. I'm surfing cellphones.ca right now to compare some too. Not sure about the review quality/objectivity, but I like the "show me Bell only" type features.

The Vantage is not awful. One of my table-mates at the workshop I was attending last week had one.

But I think you should totally go for that sexy bag phone.

I'd definitely be rockin' the bag phone.

I'd love one, but in Canada there's only one carrier, data plans are stupid expensive, and in this case I'm just replacing a work phone with a different carrier so I have fewer options.

A fun phone is on my wishlist for the future though!
