Canada's Warrior Class
Mar. 16th, 2006 07:27 amCanada has an Armed Forces.
Some don't believe it, because all they hear about is how we didn't go to Iraq (actually not completely true) and we harbour terrorists (completely untrue) and the 9/11 terrorists came from Canada (completely untrue).
Some know we have an armed forces, but kinda wish we didn't. Having never needed one on our soil -- short of shoveling snow in Toronto, or calming governmental nerves during the FLQ crisis -- it's easy to think that we can safely be quite pacifist.
Some know we have an armed forces, and are happy about it, because of what an excellent peacekeeping job they do (and are famous for), but the idea of peacemaking is a little scary and a little too warlike for their taste sometimes. This is where I usually sit, despite my Dad being Army.
Some wish our armed forces was bigger, badder, better funded, and that we would just bomb the everliving fuck out of the entire middle east. That would resolve the issues for sure.
All will enjoy learning a bit more about War: Canadian-style, from the Toronto Star. You know it's interesting when my Reform/Alliance/Conservative-voting father forwards me a story from the Star (Canada's highest-selling, leftest-leaning, daily newspaper).
