Up until now, I had made 666 entries in my journal. Holy cow.

Last night I dreamed that we took an Air France 747* to France, direct rather than through Rome as we're actually going to. We got to sit in the upstairs, and I was in the very front, with my feet kicking the bulkhead behind which you'd find the pilots. It was a thin wall too. The takeoff was very fast and pretty quiet, as I understand they can be from that vantage point. Also, we landed on a busy highway, then took an exit for the airport in Paris. Even the exit sign looked pretty and stylish. Like how [livejournal.com profile] skaughty would design an exit sign.

When we took the exit, there were several paths to follow, depending on where you wanted to get to -- possibly different Paris airports, as if Ottawa's Transitway had been transplanted and widened quite a bit. It was confusing for the pilots though, so we stopped at the intersection, and he got out and used the ATM. Not sure how I knew this or saw it. When we all had to return to our seats, I had a really hard time figuring out which seat I had been in, and everybody kept shuffling around. I tried to sit closer to [livejournal.com profile] leapfish but was unsuccessful.

I guess that's what two Smirnoff Ice Mandarin, two Pure Source, a mystery shot, and a Jaggermeister shot will do to my dreams. Fun!

* I just checked, and Air France has 23 Boeing 747s. Air Canada no longer operates any. Which is OK, old 747s are incredibly inefficient. Apparently the newer ones are good, but the world I think is moving away from needing big planes -- I worry that the A380 is going to flop. Boeing certainly is praying for that, I'm sure.

Oh god. There are radio ads running in Iowa, as part of a campaign to encourage Condoleezza Rice to run for US President in 2008. The jingle in the ad is "Condeleezza will lead us, brother ... into a brave new world."

I can't even begin to describe the wrongness there.

Are Canada and the United States on "divergent paths," as the New York Times headlined its story this week on reaction to Ottawa's decision not to participate in the U.S. missile defence program?

Has there been a "fundamental shift" in relations, as the experts quoted by the Times argued?

Short answer: no. People have incredibly short memories, that's all. A quick jaunt through Canadian history:

On this Thursday, March 10th, there will be a rally against equal marriage -- "Defend Marriage" it's called -- right here in our city. If you have the time and willingness, I encourage you to attend to help provide some balance to this debate.

...maybe this is why Air Canada retired all theirs?
