Microsoft is giving away a free Security Updates CD, and you should all go order a copy. Even [livejournal.com profile] simplisticton, despite being primarily Linux now. Security updates will help protect your computer.

Then you should go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and check for even newer updates. And then keep doing it.

Anyway, I do have a point. A fun tech-news website, The Register, has a report all about the security CD and various other things, which has this snippet in it:
When someone buys a new computer from Dell or IBM or whomever, one of these CDs should be included with the rest of the packaging. If their computer is sent in for repairs, the returned machine should be accompanied by the latest Microsoft Security Update CD. Security pros should carry copies of these CDs with them everywhere, and if someone even asks us to help them, we should force one of those CDs on them. At weddings, forget cameras and pins and pens - guests should be given Microsoft Security Update CDs as momentos. Along with our tax refund checks from the IRS, the government should include Microsoft Security Update CDs.

I'm sure you all see where I'm going here: I've solved the "should we give wedding guests a gift" problem!

I was surfing the Halifax TV listings a few moments ago, and discovered that "Playing It Straight" was on Fox. So I scurried upstairs to check it out. What a waste of time. Not even good enough to wait through the first set of commercials. I was under no illusion that it would be good, mind you. But it wasn't even bad-funny, just bad-sad.
