The Boeing 737 is the most popular airliner of all time. Boeing has actually sold more 737s than Airbus has sold airplanes. If you've been in the air, you've probably been on a 737 (unless you've only flown to Fredericton). On the average about 1,250 737s are in the air at all times; one takes off every 5 seconds.

Finally, some catty marketing from Boeing:
  • 1968 First Boeing 737-100 enters service
  • 1968 First Boeing 737-200 enters service
  • 1984 First Boeing 737-300 enters service
  • 1988 First Boeing 737-400 enters service
  • 1988 First Airbus A320 enters service
  • 1990 First Boeing 737-500 enters service
  • 1991 First Airbus A321 enters service
  • 1996 First Airbus A319 enters service
  • 1998 First Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 enters service
  • 1998 First Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 enters service
  • 1998 First Boeing Next-Generation 737-600 enters service
  • 1999 First Boeing 757-300 enters service
