Sadly, I missed it by one. But anyway.

The Boeing 707 is a four engined commercial passenger jet aircraft developed by Boeing in the early 1950s. Although it was not the first commercial jet airliner in service (that distinction belongs to the De Havilland Comet), it was the first one to be commercially successful, and is credited by many as ushering in the "Jet Age", as well as being the first of Boeing's ubiquitous 7x7 range of airliners. The success of jet airliners can be attributed to the economics of it - a 707 could do 5 times the work of a piston engine airliner such as the DC-6 at only double the cost.

American actor John Travolta owns (and is qualified to fly) a 707-138, registration N707JT.

Quoting an oft misheard song lyric:

"There go Jed and Lionel / don't carry me to far away
There go Jed and Lionel / 'cos it's here that I want to stay"

Ahhh. I recognize the song now. What are the correct lyrics?

"Big ole jet airliner".

Hence my post.

Sheesh, this was funny, I swear. :)

Ah. I see. The humour is derived from the common miscommunication of the mode of transportation. I will file that information in my memory for future conversations. Thank you.

It's funny now.

I saw a magazine ad a little while ago featuring a portrait of John in front of his home with his plane in the background. The text read something like John Travolta. Profession:airplane pilot Occupation: actor.

Well at least they have prioritized the information... wouldn't it be silly if they started off the page letting us all know that John can fly ;)

Did you notice he also made the list of Current Operators...

Ah what would we do without our world wide web of useless knowledge

Since I can't imagine anyone other than a nut looking up Boeing 707 on wikipedia, here's a link to a site full of aviation nuts (I only observe them): http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/
There's loads of other gossip regarding John Travolta and his plane, as well as questions on which Shah will buy an A380 &c.

I *love* airliners.net! I visit often. Nuts indeed!

I find it alternately fascinating and frustrating. It's remarkable how many discussions can turn into Airbus v. Boeing or Westjet v. Air Canada. Geez!

Yeah, I just stick to the photos and the facts. Someone's personal opinion about a plane gets filed in the "who cares" bin.

My ex was an airline geek. And he loved Ontario. Let's hope you two never meet.

No, if he were evil, you might enjoy his company...

I could deal with the infidelity (while making it quite clear he expected it from me); the sex was great and he was pleasant company to be around. But he was a slacker and completely incapable of holding a decent job. In that sense, he was a substantial emotional and financial drain.

I dream of someday being a financial drain on someone. I'm already an emotional drain. :)
