jPod Cancelled! Fight back!

CBC has cancelled jPod, the weird comedy-type object they built based on Douglas Coupland's incredibly odd novel. Thankfully, the show is based more on the first half of the book than the last (much more odd and hard to put on a tv show) half. Unthankfully, it's been canned!

First, a word from the actor who played Kam Fong: "I’m a pretty chilled out go with the flow kind of guy, but I recognize that there are times in my life when I’ve got to fight."
It is no huge hardship for me to go back to auditioning and booking and living my life as an actor. It is my passion. No. It angers me that the CBC our nation’s television station (yes I know among other things) chooses to cancel a show that is so cutting edge, fun, smart and CANADIAN. So many viewers have gleaned joy from watching jPod week after week.

Next, word that I can even blame the accursed Toronto Maple Leafs! While it sucks to have the show cancelled, I recognize that it happens. At least I can direct my rage at a familiar rage receptacle.

I tried to watch jPod. I wanted to like it. But the acting was poor, and the scenes with Allan Thicke were unwatchable. My desire to watch good tv overcame my desire to support original Canadian content.

Perhaps I ought to have stuck with it for more than two episodes. But I had episodes of the Border and MVP saved up on my PVR to also get through.

It's not for everyone, nothing Douglas Coupland is involved with ever is.

If you're not a Coupland reader, then watching jPod would probably not be something your brain would accept.

A friend pointed me at Jpod some weeks ago, so I hunted for the first few episodes, downloaded them, and now I've caught up with what's on TV. Love the show, just wish the CBC would follow through with a second season. Now I'm reading a Coupland book, "The Gum Thief".

I am totally upset that CBC is not continuing with this series. I rarely watch CBC because..um..ITS BORING!!! Finally something worthy to watch on this channel! This is one of the funniest shows that I have seen and now it is being canceled!!! Frustration!!!!!!!! Let try to save this show. Write, call, lets do CBC a favor and tell them to keep this show on the air.

I'm totally crushed that the CBC cancelled jPod... they finally put on a show that's brilliantly written and they pull the plug!

I've been ranting about it here:

CBC is rebroadcasting the first season of jPod over the summer (Thursdays 8pm, starting June 19). Improved ratings can save the show. Please tune in and spread the word! For more information:
