Nah.. its not illegal... as the President of the Halifax West NDP Riding Association I can tell you its very easy to get your information and infact we do it all the time, especially when we need to mail stuff out. Your address (at least to my knowledge) isn't private, along with your phone number (unless its unlisted or you use a cell phone).
The only thing that is private is how you are going to vote, unless of course you tell us when we call or mail you :D
The Globe and Mail comments section on this article is astounding.
"About time they are getting rid of a Liberal crony." -> he was elected in 1990 while the Mulroney government was in power. "Now Harper will replace him with a Conservative crony." -> the position is elected by the House meaning the other three parties will ultimately decide who gets the job. "[harper right wing conspiracy talk]" -> he doesn't report to the PMO and they couldn't get rid of him if they wanted to.
Anyway I vote for "he qualifies for a nice pension and would rather be an advisor abroad."

Um. I didn't give them money. I'm curious to know how they got my info. I wonder if they plundered the electoral roll to get it (and if that's legal).
Interesting, eh?
