Doomsday Approacheth

For those who are curious about this whole NTP-sues-RIM-why-is-it-taking-forever-when-the-patents-are-getting-rejected thing: a great roundup of the situation.

The Blackberry comes from Research In Motion, RIM*, which is based right here in Kitchener-Waterloo. They would just say Waterloo. Kitchener is icky and non-technical. So as goes RIM, so goes, K-W, or at least it feels that way.

Why Doomsday? An injunction may be applied forcing a pretty big upheaval in the Blackberry world on February 24th. Tick tick tick tick...

* who I applied for RIM jobs from, you may recall.

the last line made me laugh...or chuckle really...

"The Day The Blackberries Stood Still". Indeed. Government lives on these things... they're not going anywhere. It'd be like turning off cable, only with people that matter being affected instead of the 'proles.

Plus it seems RIM has software ready on standby that doesn't infringe on the patents that they can turn on in case they need to.

Yeah, NTP's lawyers are salivating at the chance to find infringement there. Software patents are SOOO nasty.
