What is the proper pronunciation of these words?
- pronunciation (nun or noun?)
- ogle (oh-gull or awe-gull?)
- orgy ("Oh gee" or Jean-Guy?)
- height (T or TH on the end?)
- deity (dee-it-ee or day-it-ee or die-ty ?)
I only ask because I've heard them all pronounced incorrectly over the years, sometimes by me, and I'm wondering if they are common or uncommon mispronunciations.

-"oh-gull". "aw-gull" is also acceptable. "Oogle" is used by dumb people.
-huh? There are different ways to pronounce "orgy"? You must have orgies with some pretty interesting people.
-height. Do you see two hs? I don't see two hs.
-"day-it-ee". "Dee" is also acceptable. People don't actually say "die-ty"? You're making this up.
Thanks for the chance to be snotty.

No. My *father* mispronounced it, which boggled my mind.
>People don't actually say "die-ty"? You're making this up.
When I first read the word I thought it was pronounced as if it were phonetically spelled. So not quite "die-ty", but only two syllables.
>Thanks for the chance to be snotty.
No problem, I know you enjoy it. :)

(b) The word "orgy" came up in a convo with your dad? What kind of repressed Catholic family is this?

[ii] I can't recall how it came up, but it was slightly startling and did not remain in the conversation for long.

- ogle: either (ee-ther / eye-ther) is fine with me ;)
- orgy: or-gee
- height: T
- deity: either is fine (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=deity)
"ogle" and "deity" have two acceptable pronunciations. Not sure if one is more correct than the other...
