Oy.

I did get to Winnipeg before dawn. But I needed to figure out where I was going in the morning, so I couldn't just pass out. And the damn internet at the hotel wouldn't work. Luckily, the support line just found my MAC address and gave me full access with no login for the week. Score one for the Hampton Inn and Suites.

The hotel is pretty stylin', actually. The lobby entrance has hello written on it in cool sans-serif lower case letters. And the elevator told me to smile, using the same font. And the shampoo told me... umm... to shampoo. Using the same font. And this morning they had free breakfast, and it was excellent. So I totally am staying here in future if I return to Winnipeg.

This city is very flat. I'm on the 19th floor and I'm pretty sure I can see the Calgary Tower. It's also very cold, like -27 cold. But it's a dry cold, so you could go out with just a sweatshirt as long as you don't use your nose. As soon as moisture gets in your nose it starts to freeze solid, but hey. Reminds me of Ottawa on the Canal.

Time for some lunch.

Update, after a sandwich: What else makes the hotel cool? The hotel has a king size bed, a cool bathroom (as opposed to the painfully ugly bathroom most hotels have), and the Globe and Mail for free each morning (as opposed to the National Post like many others).

Lucky says that he misses you, because you give him more attention than I do; I don't have patience for that ungrateful beast.

Is he out and walking around again, or back in Unabomber mode?

He came out to nibble on food, but disappeared when I saw him.

He's a little too Phantom for me.

Maybe he's afraid of men? Animals that are abused actually do start to react poorly like that. I'm not going to worry until it's been a few more days. Hopefully he's just a nervous nelly.

Wow! That sounds more like the W in NYC than the Hampton Inn and Suites in Winnipeg. Except that the W in NYC charged me $16 for internet that never ended up working.

Edge: Winnipeg.

Yeah, I paid $20 for a month of Internet in Chatham (despite only being there 5 days), and here in the 'Peg I get it for free. w00t!

From what I understand, consistent font usage can make the difference between a hotel receiving a four- or five-star rating. ;)

Try to keep warm!

That's the kind of trivia I love. I shall try to keep warm, with the assistance of your suggestive comments. :)

it's the opposite in hotels there from the east coast. In NB/NS they all advertise the "majestic views" since the rooms are crap. There the views are crap so the room better be good.

No seriously, I can see Calgary! My classroom is on the west side of the building, and it's the TD tower, so there's NOTHING tall to the west. It's freaky.
