(no subject)

I made The Herald, but only at the very end with just one quote. I said all sorts of interesting things to the guy -- including ([livejournal.com profile] nihilicious you would be so proud) a little bit on why is the government involved with personal relationships at all, there's no overriding reason anymore, but if they're going to be involved then they must provide equal treatment to all.

But Kim and Jim were more interesting, I guess. :)

Congratulations! :) You're really a brave guy. I don't imagine myself doing that here.

The last quote is always the one people remember. :)

Believe me, I know the frustration of having a long and intelligent conversation reduced to a soundbite.

I'm glad this is in the paper. It will be interesting to see what Gary Beals does. Fair enough if he didn't actually realize the nature of the rally--but I think that requires a certain amount of wilful blindness. My money says he finds some other reason to back out without committing to approval or disapproval of the agenda.

Sounds most likely. Mindful of how oppressive I seem to get when I'm arguing a cause, I also stressed over and over that everybody should be able to say and do what they want, and I far prefer FotF meeting out in broad daylight, as opposed to in some basement where they really get up to nasty trouble.

I'm so proud of you, my big brave man. ;)

Seriously, good for you.

Hey, I forgot to ask you. I'm downtown right now so would I be able to swing by and pick up the WAYVES stuff I need for next issue? If you don't have it ready I can get it tomorrow. Just let me know.

xo

Didn't realize you were a gay activist. Good work.

The reporter was like "can I call you a gay activist?" And I really wasn't sure what else he could call me. I'm more active than many, so I guess it works.

Re:

I wouldn't mind being more active on such issues, but I've got to come out first.

Re:

[identity profile] c9.livejournal.com 2004-02-13 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, first things first. Everybody gets to come out when they're ready. Then, when they're ready for more, they can move into more activist roles. Not everybody even gets past step one.

Well, I am out to some friends... The big one, I think, is family.

If you're the activist, does that make Vinny the passivist?

That didn't turn out as funny as I thought it would.

It was a good try though sweetie.

hehehe I find it funny for it's irony.

Some of us activists are more visible then others, i think this is the first time C9 has been painted with this label publically?

Re:

Hardly. But I spent a lot of time in other cities being "active", so maybe less so here. But working with Wayves, volunteering with Pride, writing articles in Wayves and the Herald, facilitating youth groups in Fredericton and Ottawa, writing in the Ottawa papers, volunteering in Ottawa, protesting... sheesh. I need a break. :)

After some Thought, I wish to change my answer. I think that each of us that has come out is an activist. By doing this it shows we are going to be who we are no matter what.

Any new news on the Gary Beals story? Last I heard, he was having his management team look into the situation.

I haven't heard anything, but I'm not trying to find stuff out either... I guess I lost interest once it hit the news. Que sera sera.
