Well, my eBay adventure caught up with me. Receiving gifts into Canada you get under $60 items for free (no duty), but over that you have to pay GST/HST. So my $195 savings has turned into $130 savings. Bleah.
The trick is to send things as a set of <$60 gifts (from what I've been told at the border you can bring/send as many gifts as you want as long as they're each under $60) - so have the sender take apart the palm and list the contenets as "Sylus - $20", "Battery Cover - $10", etc... ;o)
Of course, this means either that I'm going to get you a cheap wedding present or that you should set aside time now to put your new small appliance together before you plan to use it ;o) ("No officer, I'm not trying to cheat the system - I _swear_ that my friends wedding registry specifically asked for 'pieces of a blender'.")
