So our previous hacks to get our phone and DSL in the same location must be abandoned. This condo has only three phone jacks, and they all seem to be in the least useful locations possible. Oh well.

Are you kids at least wireless? If not, that might at least help solve some issues.

As for the phones ... we have one of those dual handset things, where one unit has to be plugged in near the phone jack, but the other can be plugged in wherever and get its signal from the base station wirelessly.

Oh god yes, both the desktop and laptop are wireless already. The problem basically is finding a central location to put the base station. The phone jacks are not ideally placed for that. I got wireless for the desktop solely for that reason. Also because it's cool. \m/ (that's that devil's horns heavy-metal head-banging thing, in ASCII format)
