Graphic Design Fun

Some of you know that I do covers for the atlantic Canada glbt newspaper, Wayves, along with volunteering on other stuff for them. Anyway, I just wanted to show off my most recent one, cause I love it. For comparison, I've also included March's cover.

(low-resolution versions, the real ones are huge professional-printing-quality files)

Incidentally, you don't have to pretend you like it if you don't or anything, I'm fully aware that everyone's tastes are different. But thought some of you not in Wayves target markets just might find it cute, is all.

Well, I like it. Not pretending.

Thanks!

It's cool - but do the trees represent something??? It'd be cool if it were something else - something gay - that was flaming. Perhaps Carson's wardrobe from the Queer Eye??

Nope, just found the image on google images and stole it (credited within the paper though). Something more recognizable would be cool -- maybe I can use it again someday, but add that in. :)

OK so I really like it but you totally stole my photoshop post. I spent the whole day in photoshop for my direct marketing course and I planned on coming home fully drunk and feeling good about myself to post my work. Now here I am *slightly* drunk and well, Bah! I'll do it later.

(Very nice Cameron... if I knew you better though and was sure u wouldn't be offended I'd end this with bad words).

:)

Sorry about that, you should still post something neato! I'm no good at creating, I tend to do "found items" combinations, so I'd love to see more of your work.

(this is just for april fool's, wayves normally looks totally different, so even if there's something awful in there, it doesn't have much of an effect luckily)

haha... I love drunk me I didn't even remember posting (even drunk I head straight for the computer). Anyway...

I'm very impressed by this and it is very creative. I feel like a bit of a tool for not knowing what either magazine normally looks like. I'll be sure to pick it up next time i'm in the SUB.

oh and I posted my work (friends-only) if you're still interested.

Of course! I just changed hotels and got myself re-internetted, so I shall check it out asap.

I have to admit something...

While I love LOVE the layout and artwork/pic selections, some of the fonts feel very plain. Are those standard fonts for Wayves?

Looking again, I LOVE the rainbow header on the March cover - could that be made standard for every issue? It's gorgeous and jumps RIGHT off the page.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The March cover uses our standard header, the April Fool's cover is my homage to Wired magazine, and has no basis on reality or standards. :)

How slow am I? I don't think I've ever seen a copy of "Wired"

That doesn't make you slow! :) Wired is very popular with a very narrow readership. It's a technology, cool stuff, and general geekery magazine. It's been around for 13 years, you can find it near (but not in) the computer magazines section. Very fun, usually.

*sob*

I'm such a terrible geek!! LOL

visit http://www.wired.com and read articles. if you tend to enjoy them, then the magazine is for you. if they don't hold your interest, no sobbing required. :)

I just glanced at some of the headings and summaries... and I'm thinking that I may not be that sort of geek.

I think you'll be happy to know that I looked at the pictures before reading your post and initially thought that you HAD designed a cover for WIRED magazine... it wasn't until a few minutes later that I realized that you were actually doing a homage to it. :) Good for you.

Are you worried that people won't recognize the magazine though? Wayves has become known for it's bright logo. I think you did such a good job, people will be confused at first.

[identity profile] c9.livejournal.com 2005-03-20 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Last year's April Fool's cover had one of our writers complaining. She wrote about these lesbian parties in Newfoundland, and on the cover I wrote "secret lesbian society plots downfall of country" or something like that. She wrote in saying "my friends and I are so confused, the cover doesn't make any sense, can you please advise why you did this?!?" We decided that April Fool's confusion rocks, so I kinda hope people are confused (but of course I still want them to pick it up too!)

VorflectRG! lol

*grin* Wasn't sure if the low-res version made that text clear enough the catch it. I'm still pissy about NRG taking over Vortex, so this is my low-offense way of using that.
