National Lampoon's Vacation

[livejournal.com profile] leapfish loves the movie National Lampoon's Vacation. I do not. I have watched it with him twice. Well, once. The second time I paid only half attention.

Tonight Daniel is visiting and he got to select the movie. To my horror, he selected Vacation. So I'm trying really hard to occupy myself with other things while not being a rude co-host.

One way to amuse myself: a list of reasons that National Lampoon's Vacation is funny:
1. Black people are all criminals, and therefore funny.
2. Poor people are all inbred, stupid, and therefore funny.
3. Old people are all ornery, and therefore funny. (ref. Golden Girls)
4. Anything Chevy Chase does, ever, is funny.

*sigh* As Vinny said, "Comedy was so much simpler in the 80s."

Does "simpler" mean "stupid"?

The decade that brought us Porky's, Meatballs, Police Academy, and many sequels of each?

(OK, Police Academy had some good features. They rented Toronto so much that the government could afford to repave Yonge Street all the way to Thornton Bay or wherever the hell it's supposed to end.)

My mistake - the original Meatballs came out in '79.

But you can get Meatballs III - Academie de vacances on video, dubbed in French. How exciting!

You're still allowed to pick on old people and poor people, right, or am I going to have to go back to sensitivity training again?

I totally relate to your anguish. Chevy Chase was entirely too popular with my parents.

But we still love The Vincent. :-)
