Saga

February 2002: Vinny is offered a position in Toronto, we tentatively decide to go for it. I tell my boss, she starts working on how to transfer me (this is when we were still BroadLeaf rather than Polar Bear, and a much smaller outfit). A day later, I tell her to forget it, as we've decided that we can't afford to live in Toronto yet.

September 2003: ManuLife purchases Maritime Life, Vinny's job becomes at-risk. I warn my boss that it's possible, maybe even likely, that we'll have to move to find him new work.

February 2004: We expect a job offer from Montreal, so I tell my boss that when it comes, we're going to say yes. She starts to plan how to make it work. The job offer never comes, so that plan is aborted as well.

July 2004: Vinny gets a job offer in Kitchener, we decide to consider it. I don't tell my boss, but others spill the beans about the offer. We check out the city and the job, and decide to go for it. I come back and tell my boss that I'd be moving for Sept 1. She assures me that they'll keep me on with Polar Bear, somehow.

August 10, 2004: My boss reassures me that they'll keep me on with Polar Bear, somehow.

August 23, 2004: My boss says that they're still figuring out how to do this. The main issue is that Kitchener can't afford (and doesn't need) another instructor, and there's no budget to pay my salary for the other stuff I already do in my non-classroom time. She doesn't tell me to worry, but a) she doesn't assure me of anything and b) it's one fucking week away.

Maybe I should see if Starbucks is hiring in Kitchener...

Woooo!!! Starbucks...I'm sure they're hiring :-)

Hopefully, Polar Bear (sounds like a popsicle company or something) works their shit out!!!

As long as you don't have to offer fries or to supersize that meal deal at starbucks you should be fine.

It's a little un-nerving when the job uncertanty card is laid on the table.... You'll do fine *keeps fingers crossed*

If not I got a room here for the 2 of ya's if you want to try you luck in Ottawa...

Good luck and chin up bud, things will work out.

Thanks Shawn. Should be OK, my boss just likes leaving things to the last possible second, and then longer.

I haven't come across a boss who doesn't leave things 'till the last second (and beyond). Then again, I do work for the public service...

Manulife..?

Can Vinnie offer any suggestions for obtaining rehab. consultant work with Manulife that wouldn't involve moving all my shit (including five other large to medium mammals and seven fish) across the country?? :-s

Looking for work sucks...

He's in a totally different area from that, so would have little-to-nothing to add, I suspect. Sorry!

Well, I always figure it can't hurt to ask!

*Keeping fingers crossed* Hope you don't have to be a barista, even though I think you should look cute wearing a green apron ;)

Hope everything is fine and all the best from here :)

I hope your boss sorts everything out and it all works out. Good luck.

Well, I'm positive that the company doesn't want to loose you, and that push come to shove hopefully they'll be able to make something materialize for you.
